I took my canoe 28.3 mile down the Ohio River in one day to bring awareness of the hazards of fracking fluids storage along the Ohio River.

The beginning of my 28.3 mile trip down the Ohio River started at the Symmes Creek boat ramp in Chesapeake, Ohio. It was a great sunny day that wasn't too hot.

This is me with David L. Malone Memorial AMVETS Post 5293 at the 142nd Ironton/Lawrence County Memorial Day Parade. This is the longest continually running Memorial Day Parade in the history of the US. Our post has won awards on our floats for the last twelve years.

As a member and Adjutant of David L. Malone Memorial Ironton AMVETS Post 5293, we go out every Flag Day, Memorial Day, and Veteran's Day to replace the worn out flags across the county at cemeteries where we know soldiers are, or where families of soldiers request our assistance.

This flag was replaced at a memorial for the first soldier from our county lost to the War on Terror, David Cole.

On this occasion, the David L. Malone Memorial Ironton AMVETS Post 5293 performed a flag-raising ceremony for the inhabitants of a local nursing home that included several veterans. This was a great honor.

This was the David L. Malone Memorial Ironton AMVETS Post 5293 float for the 2012 parade. Ohio Veteran's Hall of Fame inductee Dave Barker rode the float with us. We won the Best Theme award and our post commander was elected Honorary Grand Marshall for the longest continually running Memorial Day Parade in US history. 145 years and counting!

Three winners from the Americanism contest we held last year. Each year these students write essays on what America means to them. We've had several from our post win state and even one national champion!

Our post was asked to teach children of a local school what it means to be a veteran. It was good fun to speak with the kids and find out what they think a soldier does. We ended the lesson with teaching the children how to salute the flag.
